To the casual observer the prairie may appear...ordinary. Its vistas may not command attention like the Grand Canyon or Rocky Mountains, but look closely and you will find explosions of color punctuating expanses of green during summer, and swaths of russet in autumn. This subtle loveliness informed my approach to creating a series of notecards featuring prairie wildflowers.

   My goal in making these images is to artistically distill—to "boil off" excess detail until what remains is simply necessary to define the subject—employing flat shapes and color rather than techniques creating the illusion of three-dimensional space. For me, these prairie wildflowers represent the understated beauty of our native grasslands.
